Child Abuse

Today I begin a new category, Child Abuse, which tracks politicians' use of children to promote their own political agenda. I call it child abuse because too many self-serving politicians profess the welfare of children in some manner as a means of promoting their political careers. Children become the means to a politician's ends. If you find an example, please email it to me and I will post it.

I start with the Congressional hearings on the use of steroids in baseball by the Government Reform Committee, chaired by Tom Davis of Virginia and co-sponsored by Henry Waxman of California.

Second, I’m extremely concerned about the message being sent to children. We have a responsibility to help educate all Americans – but especially young people who admire and emulate their heroes – about the very real health risks associated with steroid use. We can help kids understand that steroids aren’t cool.”

Yes, I'm certain these hearings are for the sake of the children.
